good morning

today i am going to tell you about an egg benedict what i ate in olean. olean is a city where there are many traffic circles that you can drive on.

it is the biggest city in cattaraugus county which is part of appalachia even though it is in new york. many people do not know this but you can look it up on line!!

olean is also close to many beautiful nature places, and it is home to a mall that is sadly not very busy, but i think that it is very interesting to go in and look around. another thing that many people do not know is that malls can be very peaceful places if there are not very many people there. i think that the mall in olean is beautiful in a way all its own.

i think that anyone who can visit cattaraugus country should go to visit. even if there are not so many things to do as in a **really big city** like buffalo, it can be a very nice place. i even went to the library in town which was very interesting because it had an aquarium and historical references about the region and many decorations that were older than many people you know. i did not take any pictures in the library because the rule to follow when you are in a library is do not disturb!! so you will have to go and see it yourself.

but this is not a blog about very nice libraries!! this is a blog about eggs benedict and the places where you can eat them. and the place i went to eat my egg benedict on my day in olean was the union tea cafe.

as you can see this is a very nice looking place. inside it is also very nice but on the day that i went it was **very busy** and it is a small cafe so i could not take pictures without taking pictures of people who maybe did not want to be photographed. but there are many pictures on google you can go and look at, and as you will learn this cafe has an english theme. many times i do not like to go to places like this but at union tea cafe this theme was not over done and it actually looked very nice.

one other interesting fact about this cafe is that you are supposed to take a menu and look at it and decide what you would like to eat before you go up to the counter to place your order, and there is a sign that says this. this is a **very good idea** but it was also where my trouble began!! there were not any menus near the sign so people were going up to the counter and figuring it out there. this was difficult because there were many different foods to choose from, which caused a delay!!

but i do not mind waiting in line so much. if you are a person who hates waiting in line then you are in for some trouble in your life because you will have to do it a lot!! but the people who take your order and bring you your egg benedict at union tea cafe had been working hard helping many other people on the day that i went and they seemed very unhappy to keep doing it. this is also sometimes alright because do you like going to your job and working very hard all the time? especially on a very busy day when people are not always nice to you?? i am sure that you do not, so please forgive them for having a bad day.

even though i waited in line for a little more time than i expected my egg benedict came very quickly!! i had also ordered a rooibos chai which is one of many teas that you can drink at union tea cafe. i will say that this was **very tasty** and a little sweet and spicy. i will go back to union tea cafe on a better day to try other types of tea, because this was a very different thing that you will not find in other places!!

another thing that you should also know is that when you go to have an eggy benny at union tea cafe you can have it on a waffle instead of an english muffin. this is very innovative. but i decided to have an english muffin because eggs benedict is very good already, and i did not want to change it on that day.

wow!! it looks very good and the blue plate is very nice. as you can see there is lots of hollandaise sauce, which is usually a very good thing because this is the best part of the egg benedict!!

but sadly i must tell you that the very first thing you will notice about this eggy benny is a smell (which you cannot notice through a web site). the smell is vinegar!! i do not know if the people who made the hollandaise sauce used vinegar on it but if so they should not have. hollandaise sauce is a very simple but special sauce that has three main ingredients and those ingredients are egg yolk and butter and lemon juice, but not (!) vinegar!!

when you eat the eggy benny this does not improve very much unless you are a person who is very excited about salt and vinegar chips. i do like salt and vinegar chips but you would need to be very excited about them to enjoy this egg benedict. besides vinegar flavor the hollandaise sauce also had a very strange spice flavor. in a normal egg benedict you would want there to be a very good amount of hollandaise sauce but because this time it tasted like vinegar, this turned out to be a bad thing!! this was the very first time in many years that i have eaten eggs benedict for breakfast that i wanted the hollandaise sauce to be less.

i am also very sad to tell you that the other parts of the egg benedict were not very good. another very important part of an egg benedict is of course the egg!! eggs benedict includes a poached egg but this time i think the egg was almost soft boiled. when you poach an egg you can use water that is almost boiling and swirl the water and then put the egg in so the white goes around the yolk like it is giving it a gentle hug. this was not done and i wonder if they gave the egg a very hot bath instead, because when you start to eat the yolk does not go on your muffin or on your ham.

i would like to tell you more about the ham, but because of the taste that the hollandaise sauce had i could not taste the ham. it looked very good and i think that it was the best part of this eggy benny. it was tender and i think that it was ok. the muffin was not so good. i do not know if the people who made this egg benedict decided to toast the muffin but i think that they did not. the muffin was like a dough but it did not taste very bad, if you do not mind the texture.

you may be surprised to learn that i did not finish my egg benedict (!). this is a very rare thing to happen because i think that all eggy bennies are very good in their own ways. but this time i think that i have changed my mind because if you order an egg benedict that maybe has vinegar on it, it will not be very good.

i think that i will go to union tea cafe another time to see if it is different on a day that is not so busy. this is a cafe that has many very good reviews and i think that it is possible that a mistake happened on this day. if this was on purpose then i am very sad. next time i think that i will try the egg benedict with a waffle to see if this was just a bad hollan-day (!).

however union tea cafe is still a very good place to go if you are a person who enjoys many different teas and you would like to sit outside on a very nice day. i do not think that this should stop you from going there at all but please be careful!! i would rate this more eggs if this was a blog web site about cafes but it is actually about eggy bennies and so i cannot do it. i will rate it an extra one half egg because even though i did not like the hollandaise sauce they did put a very good amount.
